If you would like to join the Foster & Toora Medical Centres, please forward a current resume with references to our practice manager Heather Byrne. See our home page for contact details.
Applications for office staff, nursing staff, & medical practitioners are always welcome. GP's with procedural skills are particularly sought after, & we can usually accommodate good candidates. Please feel free to phone one of the practice principles if you need more information. The current doctors & staff work well as a team, & have a strong sense of camaraderie. We recognise that there is more to life than work & are flexible with working arrangements. Some of the current work structures include full time, part time, & job-sharing. The current associate doctors each have a day off per week.
We currently have four associates, four independent practitioners & three GP Registrars. We offer an attractive remuneration package that includes a number of government incentives such as PIP, Rural Retention Payments, & Procedural Grants.
The on call is shared equally. This currently equates to about 1 night per week & 1 weekend in 3 or 4. REGISTRARS always have the backup of their GP mentor, & are encouraged to seek help if they are unsure how to manage a clinical situation.
We are considerably aided in our on-call weekends by a fully-funded practice nurse who works in the Acute Care Clinic from 1pm to 9pm both Saturday and Sunday. This nurse aims to give appropriate advice to callers on the phone, to manage those patients that need not see a doctor, or to call the doctor in - ideally at pre-arranged times during the afternoon. He or she also arranges all billing and makes appointments where needed. This is a great innovation at Foster and it means our weekends on call are usually not onerous.
The practice associates are all keen registrar supervisors. We are proud of our efforts in teaching and in providing an excellent and enjoyable rural/medical experience.
Foster / Toora is classified as a ASGC Remoteness Area 2 (RA 2). Rural registrars are eligible for the rural registrar incentive payment scheme. We are a training site for the "small town" advanced rural skills post, with 3 registrars having now completed the program.
